The hamlets of Yorklyn and Mt. Cuba lie along Delaware 82 as it parallels the Red Clay Creek and Wilmington & Western Railroad. The road otherwise cuts through a deep valley (for Delaware standards) along a twisting and winding alignment adjacent to the stream. The southernmost stretch crosses over the Hoopes Reservoir before ending at the junction of Delaware 52 and Kirk Road. Hoopes Reservoir in Wilmington, Delaware is especially beautiful in the fall. Construction on the reservoir started in 1925. It is dedicated to the former Chief Engineer of the Wilmington Water Department, Colonel Edgar M. Hoopes (1888 - 1931).
