The best way to keep your fish fresh is to put them on ice immediately after catching and dressing them, however, if you do a lot of stream or shoreline fishing, you may not be able to carry a cooler. Take a few sections of newspaper with you. When you catch a fish field dress it and wrap it in a few pages of moistened newspaper. The paper breathes and works like evaporative cooling keeping your table bound fish fresh until you can get them on ice.
